How the puppy weight predictor works
This predictor uses growth milestone data from Salt et al. (2017), published in Veterinary Record, which tracked the weight development of dogs across five size categories from birth to adulthood. By comparing your puppy's current weight against the expected growth percentage for their age and size category, we estimate their adult weight range.
Factors that affect adult weight
Genetics play the largest role, but nutrition, neutering status, and overall health also influence growth rate. Puppies fed excessive calories during rapid growth phases may exceed their genetic weight potential, while underfed puppies may not reach it. Large and giant breeds grow more slowly than toy and small breeds, reaching full size at 18–24 months rather than 10–12 months.

Boxer Health & Weight Management
Boxers are muscular, high-energy athletes. Their deep chests make them prone to gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV/bloat), a life-threatening emergency. Excess body weight compounds this risk and also stresses the heart — Boxers are already predisposed to cardiomyopathy and aortic stenosis. Hip dysplasia is another concern accelerated by extra pounds.
Exercise: Boxers need 60–90 minutes of vigorous exercise daily — running, fetch, or agility. They have bursts of high energy followed by rest periods, mimicking their working heritage. Avoid exercising right before or after meals to reduce bloat risk.
Feeding tips: Feed 2–3 smaller meals daily rather than one large meal to reduce bloat risk. Use slow-feeder bowls. Boxers are enthusiastic eaters and will gulp food if allowed. Choose a high-quality kibble with lean protein (22–25%). Avoid elevated feeders unless recommended by your vet.
Keeping your Boxer at an ideal 55–75 lbs (25–34 kg) is essential for heart and joint health. Use PawScale's calorie calculator for Boxers to determine daily energy needs, check body condition with our BCS tool, and create a bloat-safe feeding plan with the feeding guide.
