Editorial Policy
How we create, review, and maintain the content on PawScale
Last updated: September 10, 2026
Our Commitment
PawScale is committed to providing accurate, well-sourced information about dog weight management and nutrition. We believe pet owners deserve transparency about where data comes from and how content is created.
This page explains our editorial process, how we use AI tools, and our financial relationships.
Our Content Creation Process
Every piece of content on PawScale goes through a structured workflow:
- 1
Research & Data Collection
We start by gathering data from authoritative sources: AKC breed standards, WSAVA nutrition guidelines, FCI breed standards, and peer-reviewed veterinary journals. Each data point — from ideal weight ranges to calorie formulas — must trace back to at least one verifiable source.
- 2
Content Drafting
Our editorial team drafts content using collected research. We use AI-assisted tools to help structure information and ensure consistency across 152 breed pages, but every factual claim is manually verified against source material. AI tools are used for efficiency, not as a substitute for expert judgment.
- 3
Fact-Checking & Cross-Referencing
Each piece of content is cross-referenced between multiple sources. For example, breed weight ranges are verified against both AKC and FCI standards. When sources disagree, we present the range and explain the discrepancy rather than picking one arbitrarily.
- 4
Review & Publication
Content undergoes editorial review for accuracy, clarity, and completeness. We check that all internal links work, all calculations produce correct results, and all schema markup is properly implemented.
- 5
Ongoing Updates
We review content quarterly and update it when new research emerges, breed standards change, or community feedback identifies inaccuracies. Each page displays its last reviewed date so you know how current the information is.
AI-Assisted Research
We use AI tools as part of our research and content creation workflow. Specifically:
Content structuring — AI helps organize information into consistent formats across our 152 breed pages
Draft generation — First drafts of breed descriptions and nutrition guides are generated with AI assistance
Code & calculations — AI assists in implementing calorie formulas and weight prediction algorithms
Important: All AI-generated content is fact-checked against primary sources before publication. AI is a tool for efficiency — it does not replace source verification. No AI-generated claims are published without human review and source confirmation.
What We Are — And What We Are Not
We are:
- •
A free resource for dog owners seeking reliable weight and nutrition data
- •
A team that cross-references every data point against verifiable scientific sources
- •
Committed to full transparency about our methods, sources, and limitations
We are not:
- •
We are not veterinarians. The content on PawScale is for informational purposes only and should not replace professional veterinary advice.
- •
We do not have a licensed veterinarian on staff. Instead, we build trust through radical source transparency — every number is traceable to its origin.
- •
If your dog has health concerns, please consult a licensed veterinarian.
