Brittanys are compact, energetic pointing dogs originally developed in Brittany, France, for hunting birds in dense brush. They are the smallest of the pointing breeds, with a clean-cut, athletic build and a cheerful, eager-to-please temperament. Despite their smaller size among sporting dogs, they possess remarkable stamina and drive. Hip dysplasia and ear infections are the primary health concerns — excess weight directly accelerates joint deterioration, while their drop ears trap moisture during field work, creating a breeding ground for bacteria.

Exercise: Brittanys need 60–90 minutes of vigorous daily exercise — running, hiking, retrieving, and field work. They are among the most energetic sporting breeds relative to their size. A Brittany without adequate exercise becomes hyperactive, vocal, and destructive. They make exceptional running and cycling partners and love water.

Feeding tips: Feed 1.5–2 cups of quality sporting-breed formula daily in two meals. Adjust portions based on activity level — a field dog burns far more calories than a pet. Avoid overfeeding; Brittanys should stay lean and athletic. Clean ears thoroughly after swimming or field work. Limit treats to 10% of daily intake.
