How the puppy weight predictor works

This predictor uses growth milestone data from Salt et al. (2017), published in Veterinary Record, which tracked the weight development of dogs across five size categories from birth to adulthood. By comparing your puppy's current weight against the expected growth percentage for their age and size category, we estimate their adult weight range.

Factors that affect adult weight

Genetics play the largest role, but nutrition, neutering status, and overall health also influence growth rate. Puppies fed excessive calories during rapid growth phases may exceed their genetic weight potential, while underfed puppies may not reach it. Large and giant breeds grow more slowly than toy and small breeds, reaching full size at 18–24 months rather than 10–12 months.

Cane Corso Health & Weight Management

Cane Corso are powerful, intelligent Italian mastiff-type dogs bred for guarding and protection work. They are muscular, athletic, and imposing. Despite their tough exterior, they are sensitive and deeply bonded with their family. Obesity is a significant concern — excess weight stresses joints prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, worsens breathing, and increases cardiac workload. Bloat (GDV) is also a serious risk.

Exercise: 45–60 minutes of structured daily exercise — walks, protection sports, and interactive play. Cane Corso need a job and respond well to advanced obedience and tracking training. Mental stimulation is crucial; a bored Corso becomes destructive. Avoid forced running during growth phases.

Feeding tips: Feed measured meals twice daily using a large/giant-breed formula. Avoid one large meal (bloat risk). Use slow-feeder bowls. Cane Corso are food-motivated and will learn to manipulate family members for extra food. Establish one consistent feeding protocol.

Keeping your Cane Corso at a healthy 88–132 lbs (40–60 kg) supports joint and cardiac health. Use PawScale’s calorie calculator for Cane Corso to find precise daily needs, check body condition with our BCS tool, and plan meals with the crate size calculator.
