How the puppy weight predictor works
This predictor uses growth milestone data from Salt et al. (2017), published in Veterinary Record, which tracked the weight development of dogs across five size categories from birth to adulthood. By comparing your puppy's current weight against the expected growth percentage for their age and size category, we estimate their adult weight range.
Factors that affect adult weight
Genetics play the largest role, but nutrition, neutering status, and overall health also influence growth rate. Puppies fed excessive calories during rapid growth phases may exceed their genetic weight potential, while underfed puppies may not reach it. Large and giant breeds grow more slowly than toy and small breeds, reaching full size at 18–24 months rather than 10–12 months.

Chinese Crested Health & Weight Management
Chinese Crested come in two varieties — Hairless and Powderpuff — but both share a slender, graceful build. Their fine bone structure means that extra weight stresses delicate joints disproportionately. The Hairless variety is prone to skin issues and dental problems; excess body fat can worsen inflammation and slow healing. Keep them lean to protect their overall health.
Exercise: 20–30 minutes of moderate activity daily. Chinese Crested are surprisingly agile and enjoy agility courses at miniature height. Indoor play and fetch work well. In cold weather, dress the Hairless variety in a sweater to maintain body temperature during outdoor activity.
Feeding tips: Measure food carefully with a scale. These tiny dogs need very few calories — even an extra teaspoon of kibble per meal can cause gradual weight gain. Feed twice daily. Avoid high-fat treats; use small pieces of apple or green bean instead.
Keeping your Chinese Crested at an ideal 6–12 lbs (2.5–5.5 kg) supports joint and skin health. Use PawScale’s calorie calculator for Chinese Crested to set precise daily limits, check body condition with our BCS assessment, and plan meals with the crate size calculator.
