How the puppy weight predictor works
This predictor uses growth milestone data from Salt et al. (2017), published in Veterinary Record, which tracked the weight development of dogs across five size categories from birth to adulthood. By comparing your puppy's current weight against the expected growth percentage for their age and size category, we estimate their adult weight range.
Factors that affect adult weight
Genetics play the largest role, but nutrition, neutering status, and overall health also influence growth rate. Puppies fed excessive calories during rapid growth phases may exceed their genetic weight potential, while underfed puppies may not reach it. Large and giant breeds grow more slowly than toy and small breeds, reaching full size at 18–24 months rather than 10–12 months.

English Bulldog Health & Weight Management
The English Bulldog is a compact, muscular breed originally developed for bull-baiting in medieval England. Weighing 40–55 lbs, their extreme brachycephalic skull creates severe breathing difficulties (BOAS), and excess weight makes this dramatically worse — even a few extra pounds can turn manageable breathing into a life-threatening crisis. Bulldogs also suffer from hip dysplasia, spinal issues, and extreme heat intolerance. Their stocky frame means additional weight puts enormous stress on already-compromised joints.
Exercise: Bulldogs need only 20–30 minutes of gentle daily exercise — short, leisurely walks in cool weather. They overheat extremely quickly and cannot tolerate vigorous activity. Exercise only in early morning or evening during warm months. Watch for labored breathing or excessive panting — stop immediately. Swimming is unsafe without a life vest due to their top-heavy build.
Feeding tips: Feed two small measured meals daily using a small-breed formula. Bulldogs are notorious beggars and will gain weight rapidly if overfed. Use a flat, wide bowl designed for short-nosed breeds. Keep treats to a minimum — replace biscuits with small pieces of cucumber or watermelon. A kitchen scale is the best investment a Bulldog owner can make.
Keeping your Bulldog at a healthy 40–55 lbs (18–25 kg) is the most important thing you can do for their breathing and comfort.
