How the puppy weight predictor works

This predictor uses growth milestone data from Salt et al. (2017), published in Veterinary Record, which tracked the weight development of dogs across five size categories from birth to adulthood. By comparing your puppy's current weight against the expected growth percentage for their age and size category, we estimate their adult weight range.

Factors that affect adult weight

Genetics play the largest role, but nutrition, neutering status, and overall health also influence growth rate. Puppies fed excessive calories during rapid growth phases may exceed their genetic weight potential, while underfed puppies may not reach it. Large and giant breeds grow more slowly than toy and small breeds, reaching full size at 18–24 months rather than 10–12 months.

Havanese Health & Weight Management

Havanese are sturdy, cheerful toy companions with a silky coat and an eager-to-please nature. Despite their small size, they are surprisingly robust — but their compact frame means that extra weight quickly translates to joint stress. Havanese are prone to patellar luxation and portosystemic shunt; maintaining lean body condition reduces the burden on affected systems.

Exercise: 20–30 minutes of moderate daily exercise — walks, play sessions, and agility at a miniature scale. Havanese excel at dog sports like rally and obedience. They enjoy mental challenges and will happily perform tricks for food rewards.

Feeding tips: Havanese love food and will work eagerly for treats — which makes training fun but creates overfeeding risk. Measure every meal. Limit training treats to pea-sized portions. Choose a small-breed formula with moderate fat content (12–15%).

Keeping your Havanese at a healthy 7–13 lbs (3–6 kg) supports lifelong mobility. Use PawScale’s calorie calculator for Havanese to find the right daily intake, check their body condition with our BCS assessment, and track progress with the crate size calculator.
