How the puppy weight predictor works
This predictor uses growth milestone data from Salt et al. (2017), published in Veterinary Record, which tracked the weight development of dogs across five size categories from birth to adulthood. By comparing your puppy's current weight against the expected growth percentage for their age and size category, we estimate their adult weight range.
Factors that affect adult weight
Genetics play the largest role, but nutrition, neutering status, and overall health also influence growth rate. Puppies fed excessive calories during rapid growth phases may exceed their genetic weight potential, while underfed puppies may not reach it. Large and giant breeds grow more slowly than toy and small breeds, reaching full size at 18–24 months rather than 10–12 months.

Mastiff Health & Weight Management
The Mastiff is one of the largest dog breeds in the world, descended from ancient war dogs of the Roman era. Despite their intimidating size, they are gentle, loyal, and surprisingly lazy housemates. Their enormous body is inherently prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, cruciate ligament tears, and arthritis. Excess weight compounds these problems severely and adds dangerous stress to their heart. The breed is also predisposed to gastric dilatation-volvulus (bloat) and certain cancers — obesity worsens outcomes for all of these conditions.
Exercise: Mastiffs need 30–45 minutes of daily moderate exercise — leisurely walks are ideal. They are not endurance dogs and tire quickly, especially in heat. Short, frequent walks are better than one long session. Avoid puppy over-exercise to protect developing joints. They enjoy having a yard to patrol but are fundamentally couch potatoes at heart.
Feeding tips: Feed a large-breed formula in two to three measured meals daily. A Mastiff can eat 8–12 cups of dry food per day — precision matters enormously at this scale. Use slow-feed bowls to reduce bloat risk. Never exercise around meals. Supplement with glucosamine and fish oil. Weigh food on a scale rather than using cups.
Keeping your Mastiff at a healthy 120–250 lbs (54–113 kg) is critical for their heart, joints, and cancer resilience. Use PawScale's calorie calculator for Mastiffs to set exact daily limits, check body condition with our BCS assessment tool, and build a balanced meal plan with the feeding guide.
