How the puppy weight predictor works
This predictor uses growth milestone data from Salt et al. (2017), published in Veterinary Record, which tracked the weight development of dogs across five size categories from birth to adulthood. By comparing your puppy's current weight against the expected growth percentage for their age and size category, we estimate their adult weight range.
Factors that affect adult weight
Genetics play the largest role, but nutrition, neutering status, and overall health also influence growth rate. Puppies fed excessive calories during rapid growth phases may exceed their genetic weight potential, while underfed puppies may not reach it. Large and giant breeds grow more slowly than toy and small breeds, reaching full size at 18–24 months rather than 10–12 months.

Miniature Poodle Health & Weight Management
Miniature Poodles are intelligent, elegant toy dogs with a hypoallergenic curly coat. They are among the smartest breeds and thrive on mental stimulation. While not naturally prone to obesity, neutered Miniatures and those fed excessive treats can gain weight, which worsens patellar luxation and Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease — both common in the breed.
Exercise: 30–40 minutes of daily activity — walks, swimming (Poodles love water), and obedience training. Miniature Poodles excel at agility and rally. Mental exercise is equally important; rotate puzzle toys and training games.
Feeding tips: Poodles are food-motivated and will perform eagerly for treats — use this for training but count the calories. Measure main meals with a scale. Choose a high-quality small-breed formula. Limit treats to 10% of daily calories.
Keeping your Miniature Poodle at a healthy 11–18 lbs (5–8 kg) supports joint health and a long lifespan. Use PawScale’s calorie calculator for Miniature Poodles to find exact daily needs, assess body condition with our BCS tool, and follow the crate size calculator.
