How the puppy weight predictor works
This predictor uses growth milestone data from Salt et al. (2017), published in Veterinary Record, which tracked the weight development of dogs across five size categories from birth to adulthood. By comparing your puppy's current weight against the expected growth percentage for their age and size category, we estimate their adult weight range.
Factors that affect adult weight
Genetics play the largest role, but nutrition, neutering status, and overall health also influence growth rate. Puppies fed excessive calories during rapid growth phases may exceed their genetic weight potential, while underfed puppies may not reach it. Large and giant breeds grow more slowly than toy and small breeds, reaching full size at 18–24 months rather than 10–12 months.

Norwich Terrier Health & Weight Management
The Norwich Terrier is one of the smallest working terriers, closely related to the Norfolk Terrier but distinguished by their prick ears. Bred in England to hunt rats and rabbits, they are fearless, energetic, and compact. Their small, sturdy frame is prone to upper airway syndrome — a breed-specific respiratory condition causing noisy breathing and exercise intolerance. They also face patellar luxation, hip dysplasia, and dental crowding. Excess weight worsens breathing difficulty and accelerates joint and dental problems.
Exercise: Norwich Terriers need 30–45 minutes of daily exercise — brisk walks and active play sessions. They are spirited terriers with surprising stamina for their size. They excel at earthdog trials and small-dog agility. Do not trust them off-leash near small animals — their prey drive is intense. They enjoy digging and will exploit any gap in a fence.
Feeding tips: Feed measured meals twice daily using a small-breed formula. A Norwich needs about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of dry food per day. Choose kibble size appropriate for their small jaws. Limit treats — obesity is common in small dogs because owners underestimate calorie intake. Dental health kibble or regular brushing helps prevent periodontal disease.
Keeping your Norwich Terrier at a healthy 11–13 lbs (5–6 kg) eases breathing and protects their joints. Use PawScale's calorie calculator for Norwich Terriers to set exact daily limits, check body condition with our BCS assessment tool, and build a balanced meal plan with the feeding guide.
