How the puppy weight predictor works

This predictor uses growth milestone data from Salt et al. (2017), published in Veterinary Record, which tracked the weight development of dogs across five size categories from birth to adulthood. By comparing your puppy's current weight against the expected growth percentage for their age and size category, we estimate their adult weight range.

Factors that affect adult weight

Genetics play the largest role, but nutrition, neutering status, and overall health also influence growth rate. Puppies fed excessive calories during rapid growth phases may exceed their genetic weight potential, while underfed puppies may not reach it. Large and giant breeds grow more slowly than toy and small breeds, reaching full size at 18–24 months rather than 10–12 months.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi Health & Weight Management

Corgis are sturdy, low-set herding dogs with a strong appetite. Their long spine and short legs make them especially vulnerable to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) — even modest weight gain increases spinal compression risk. Hip dysplasia is also common; excess body fat accelerates joint degeneration and can lead to chronic pain by middle age.

Exercise: Corgis need at least 30–45 minutes of brisk walking or active play daily. They were bred to herd cattle, so they have surprising stamina. Split exercise into two sessions — morning and evening — to avoid overloading the spine. Swimming is excellent low-impact conditioning.

Feeding tips: Corgis will eagerly eat anything offered. Measure portions with a kitchen scale rather than free-feeding. Limit treats to no more than 10% of daily calories. Avoid table scraps — Corgis quickly learn to beg and gain weight just as fast.

Keeping your Corgi at an ideal weight of 22–31 lbs (10–14 kg) is one of the best ways to protect their spine and joints. Use PawScale's calorie calculator for Corgis to determine exact daily needs, check their body condition with our free BCS assessment tool, and follow the feeding guide for portion recommendations tailored to your dog's activity level.
